1. What is the criteria for picking on a particular school or program for graduate studies ?
A. There are quite a few if you ask me. I will try listing some of them below:
- Accreditation : is the University recognized by an accrediting agency listed in the U.S. Department of Education Database of Accredited Postsecondary Institutions and Programs. If not, dont even bother going anywhere near it. Next, is the academic program you are looking into also accredited. Finally, check the status of the University’s and the academic program’s accreditation history. Has it ever been suspended or revoked.
- Go a bit deep into the syllabus/courses offered etc as a part of the program you are considering. Make sure that it really offers what you are looking for. This is very important.
- What are the tuition costs, whether and how you would be able to afford it, and most important, will it provide sufficient ROI on the money that you spend.
- Check the hiring history of the program, which are the companies that hire students from campus for that particular program. Is the salary offered at par or more than the market average. How many of the students get full time offers before completing their program. How are the chances of getting a good internship during your program tenure.
NB: This page would be regularly updated. If you have a particular question please email us with your question or post it as a comment on the blog.
